This Victorian tiled hallway in Birmingham was laid in a herringbone design with tiles from Craven Dunnill. And as you can see the tiles were covered with our most loathed of coverings; shellac varnish. The varnish had really soaked into the tiles, removing this was never going to be easy.

Our task on this Victorian hallway in Rippingale Lincolnshire was to try and camouflage the brush marks that can be seen in the 'before' photos. The brush marks had been caused by bleaching of the clay body with the use of a readily available DIY product; not that the owners had done anything wrong and had simply followed the products directions.

An Edwardian herringbone floor from 1902 consisting of hard fired quarries. Even though the floor had seen a little movement during its life the floor was still solid as a rock and without still full of character. At some stage a bright spark thought it the done thing to hammer masonry nails through the border tiles;

This herringbone tile floor in Harborne needed a deep clean and a good seal to draw out those lustrous Victorian tile floor colours. After removing remnants of old polish and some ingrained dirt we set about cleaning away the cement residues that has collected in the pores of the tiles over the years.

You would be forgiven for thinking the photos below show efflorescence forming on the tiles. But you’d be incorrect. This white bloom is actually the result of someone attempting to restore the floor and not neutralising the detergent

This floor had a multitude of contaminants ingrained into the tiles. Everything from floor paint, to varnish and trapped dirt. Household cleaning would never had touched these.

Just a few photos of a beautiful herringbone pattern floor in West Bridgford Nottingham, tiles are from the Campbell Tile Company and as you see they look simply amazing once cleaned and sealed. The after shots show the floor mid-way through the sealing stage, though still drying we are really pleased with the results.
